Small team retreats and team building near Auckland.

— Small teams, a wider view

Time to think. Space to reconnect.

A strategy offsite, a planning retreat or time to bring the team together. Black Barn Valley Retreat is a private house near Helensville, about 45 minutes from central Auckland, depending on traffic. Two lounges, a full kitchen and decks overlooking the valley give a small group room to work, eat and spend time together.

You bring the people and shape the programme. Tell Louise what you have in mind, and she will help confirm whether the house and arrangements suit your team.

Plan a team retreat

— Make the time your own

A different rhythm to the working week.

A few ideas for your own retreat. Your team arranges facilitation, organised activities and activity equipment separately.

— 01

A little room to think.

Bring a clear question, put the everyday interruptions aside and give your planning the time it needs. A small leadership group, founder session or annual strategy discussion can set its own pace.

— 02

Make something together.

Plan a shared meal in the kitchen, take a conversation out onto the deck or organise a relaxed pool-table challenge. Simple, self-led activities leave room for people to reconnect.

— 03

Let the evening unfold.

Stay on for dinner and time away from the agenda. The spa, valley views and two lounges give your group different ways to wind down, with the house reserved for you.

Gather around the table, then spread out.

The indoor dining table seats up to eight, with the kitchen and lower lounge alongside. A second lounge upstairs and the outdoor decks give you places to pause between sessions. The full kitchen lets you self-cater and share meals at your own pace.

Wi-Fi is available. Before booking, ask Louise to confirm your connectivity, presentation equipment and layout requirements, including a suitable indoor plan if you hope to work outside.

— Staying together

Make sure the sleeping layout suits your team.

The house sleeps up to eight in four beds: three king beds in separate bedrooms, plus a queen bed in the open upper lounge. A group of eight would share beds. The queen is in a shared living space, so discuss privacy and sleeping preferences with your colleagues before choosing your overnight numbers.

Private event bookings have a two-night accommodation minimum. If you are considering day-only use, ask Louise about the possibilities; arrangements and pricing need to be confirmed individually.

— A little inspiration

Give the day some breathing room.

Here is one way to shape a full day during a two-night retreat, around your agreed arrival and departure times. It is a suggestion for a programme you organise yourselves.

Want to include an outing? Explore the nearby attractions, then check opening hours, group arrangements and transport directly with your chosen provider.

  1. Morning

    One shared focus.

Start with breakfast, agree the day’s goal and make time for your main planning session.

  2. Afternoon

    Change the conversation.

Share lunch, take a deck break if the weather allows, then regroup to choose practical next steps.

  3. Evening

    Put the agenda away.

Cook together, organise a friendly game of pool and leave time to enjoy the valley.

— Start with the practical details

Tell us the shape of your retreat.

Your people.

Share your proposed dates, daytime headcount and overnight numbers. The private event limit is 25 invited guests in total, including those staying. This does not mean there are meeting seats for 25; the layout needs to suit your actual group and programme.

Your plans.

Let Louise know about meals, any caterer or facilitator, equipment needs and outdoor activities. Confirm seating and an indoor alternative before settling your plans. Every retreat is reviewed individually and quoted by enquiry.

Your journey.

There is parking for up to seven cars. Plan shared transport if needed and allow for Auckland traffic. See our location and directions and read the private event terms before confirming your booking.

Where is Black Barn Valley Retreat?

The retreat is at 227 Wishart Road, Helensville, in north west Auckland. It is about 45 minutes from central Auckland, depending on traffic. There is on-site parking for up to 7 cars, so shared transport is helpful for larger groups.

Can we use the retreat for team building or a strategy offsite?

Small teams can enquire about a private retreat for planning, strategy sessions and self-organised team building. You shape the programme, meals and activities. Facilitation and organised activities are not included. Louise confirms whether the space, proposed activities and layout suit your group before booking.

How many colleagues can stay overnight?

The Main House sleeps up to 8 guests in 4 beds: 3 king beds in separate bedrooms and 1 queen bed in the open upper lounge. Accommodating 8 means sharing beds; there are not 8 separate beds or 4 private bedrooms. Please discuss your colleagues’ sleeping and privacy needs with Louise before booking.

Can more people join us during the day?

Private events are limited to 25 invited guests in total, including anyone staying overnight. This is a guest limit, not a promise of meeting seating for 25. Send Louise your day and overnight headcounts, preferred layout and equipment needs so she can confirm what is suitable and quote for your group.

Can we hire the property for a day only?

Day-only use is by discussion and is subject to Louise’s confirmation; there is no published day-hire package. Private event bookings have a 2-night accommodation minimum. Explain the type of retreat you are planning so Louise can confirm the appropriate booking arrangements and price.

Is Wi-Fi and presentation equipment available?

Wi-Fi is available at the house, but its speed and suitability for your work requirements need to be checked before booking. Tell Louise if you need video calls, a presentation screen, a projector, a whiteboard or a particular table layout. Meeting equipment and technical support should not be assumed to be included.

How do meals and activities work?

The house has a full kitchen for self-catering, as well as a BBQ, decks, a spa pool and a games room with a pool table. You organise your own food, programme and activities. Discuss any external caterer, facilitator or other supplier with Louise in advance, along with an indoor alternative for weather-dependent plans.

Bring your team. Find a little perspective.

Send Louise your dates, group numbers and ideas. She will confirm what works for your retreat and prepare an individual quote.
